Leather laser cutting & engraving
Laser-cut leather has a clean, slightly-darkened edge that doesn't fray — a finish that's almost impossible to achieve with a knife or punch. We cut and engrave leather for small leather goods makers, branding studios, wedding stationers, gift companies and luxury packaging brands.
Leather types we cut
- Vegetable-tanned — best for engraving; takes the laser mark cleanly with deep contrast.
- Chrome-tanned — cuts well but engraves with less contrast. Check thickness with us first.
- Suede / nubuck — cuts cleanly; engraving gives a soft contrast.
- Faux leather (PU-coated) — yes, if the backing is fabric not PVC.
- Materials we won't cut: PVC-based leatherette, anything with a chlorinated coating, or vintage leather of unknown finish.
Common uses
- Branded leather goods — wallets, card holders, luggage tags
- Personalised gifts — keyrings, bookmarks, journal covers
- Wedding stationery — leather invites, place cards, table names
- Watch and bracelet straps
- Patches and brand labels for apparel makers
- Sample books and material swatches for designers
What the cut edge looks like
Laser-cut leather comes off the bed with a sealed, dark edge that won't fray. On vegetable-tanned leather the edge is a rich dark brown; on chrome-tanned it's blacker. Some makers love this and leave it as the finish; others burnish the edges afterwards.
Engraving on leather
Laser engraving on vegetable-tanned leather gives a beautiful debossed dark mark that doesn't rub off. Logos, monograms, batch numbers and intricate patterns all reproduce well. For photographic-style engraves use natural-finish vegetable-tanned leather.
